Preface:  I don’t normally do reviews for products that were purchased used or for shops that seem to no longer be in business, but the concept of these inserts/lay-ins are too cool not to talk about!  Hopefully, you can still order some through her Facebook page.  This is a personal review – no one asked me to write it!

Not too long ago, I purchased a few tye-dyed prefolds from a friend on our local cloth diapering group.  Along with those prefolds, I also snagged a few of these strange maxi pad looking things called Glad Rags by Punk Rock Padding.  Little did I know… Glad Rags and a simple cover would be my go-to diaper on the days that I’ve just had enough with laundry!

I rarely get fed up with diaper laundry.  There are six people in our house, and although the little one’s close are like a fraction of the size of ours, he makes up for it with cloth diapers.  Let’s not forget… I also have a teenager… To her, if she’s changing from one outfit to another because she didn’t like the way it looked… the close she just took off are dirty.

They’re basically 4 layers of microfiber encased in crushed panne sewn down so that they do not bunch or roll.  They are trim, and the crushed panne version are truly stay-dry layins!  They’re fantastic!

You can put these into any kind of cover!  Here are a few systems that we use.  Much of the time, I’m able to use these shells as systems, which means that I’m able to take the Glad Rags out of the shell and add another one to it so that I do not have to wash the entire diaper each time I change the baby.  I find that I only need, at the most, three shells or covers a day.  I usually use Soft Bums, Cotton Cheeks, GroVia, and Flip!

This is Jett with a plain white Soft Bums shell and a Glad Rag insert or lay-in.  See how trim the diaper is? It’s so absorbent, very soft, and it keeps his bottom completely dry unless overly saturated (which we try not to do!).

I haven’t reached out to the owner of Punk Rock Padding, but it looks like her Facebook Page is still active if you want to contact her to see if she still makes Glad Rags.  This is a fantastic concept, and I’m glad that I reached out on a whim and purchased these from a local cloth diapering mama!  Honestly, if I would have had these when Jett was born, I would have probably used them as postpartum pads as well!
