I keep forgetting to update you on our little neighborhood issue involving our little yellow friend and the not-so-friendly police officer from last week.  If you haven’t read the original post, make sure you check it out!  —> Are our families being singled out by police?

The answer to that question is, yes. Kind of.

Apparently,  said officer (from previous post) went down to have a talk with the crazy neighbor lady and her husband (ex-officer).  She was down there for a while, and we realized that they are friends.

Come to find out, nothing was really even documented the way it should have been in a threatening situation like what happened.  Sad.

My neighbor ended up scheduling a meeting with the Chief of Police, and he formed a neighborhood posse to go up and express concerns.

Andy ended up having to work, and I wasn’t able to go either, but all in all, the report was that the meeting went well. The Chief acknowledged our concerns, and he was pretty much on our side to the extent that he could be.

He told my neighbors that he likes the idea of the signs, and he’s glad that we’re protective of our kids, but he can’t legally tell us that it’s ok for us to put the signs in the street. So, for now, they’ve been sitting at the end of the driveways. It gets the same point across, I guess, and as long as we’re standing in the street, hopefully people will still slow down.

Ideas were thrown around, and speed bumps were a suggestion, however, because we don’t have curbs on our street, we know people will go around the bumps into our yards, and none of us want that.

That said, other measures that I’m not able to disclose on my blog have been taken to help with the traffic enforcement on our street. I call it entrapment, others call it progress. Eh, whatever it is, if it makes everyone happy and it keeps the speed down on our street, then it’s a good thing.

As far as the lady down the street, we haven’t really seen much from her, except for the day I saw her walking down the street in her nightgown (better than her panties, which has happened before…). The craziness of her craziness is that her yard is riddled with holiday decor and children’s toys, so we know she has a love for children somewhere inside her – at least those that are related to her.

We’re not really sure what actions have been taken with the officer who was far from professional, that day, but we’re happy that things have been quiet on our street since the meeting. The neighbors did let The Chief know that they did not feel that she handled the situation professionally, so hopefully, from now on, she’ll think before she speaks – at least on our street.

Anticlimactic. I know.
