I think it’s pretty awesome that people all across the country, like myself, are taking a stand to let Congress know that we are so over dealing with the insufficient chemical laws in the US.

Seventh Generation, in coalition with the Toxin Freedom Fighters and its partners put together a petition at FightToxins.com to let Congress know that we want to protect our families from horrible chemicals that have suspected links to things like cancer, birth defects, asthma, skin conditions, Alzheimer’s disease, and so much more.  The goal was 100,000, and the number is growing by the day. I’m proud to say that I’m one of the more than 121,410 (as of 5/19 at 8:20 central) people who have joined in efforts to push to make our great nation a better place for the future.

You can still TAKE A STAND! Sign the Petition

Dressed as superheroes, the adorable Toxin Freedom Fighters and Seventh Gen presented the petition to Senator Kristen Gillibrand of New York while Kristi Marsh, mother of three and breast cancer survivor, as well as David Levine, American Sustainable Business Council and the president of Seventh Generation, John Replogle were in attendance to support the movement.

As someone who comes from a family who has had to cope with devastating loss resulting from a few of these illnesses and diseases on the list,  I want better for my children and my childrens’ children.

From the April 30 press conference, I learned that the primary US law that regulates chemicals in everyday products has not been updated in 38 years.  THIRTY EIGHT YEARS.  I just celebrated my 36th birthday, and my family is constantly making changes to keep our family safe as we grow, so why are our laws not updating with the growth and change of the nation?

As a birth worker, I teach women to do everything they can to protect their little ones while they’re still in the womb as well as during their labor and birth process and on to breastfeeding and diapering, but it almost seems as if we’re fighting a losing battle when we learn, from Seventh Generation, that babies are hit with 300 toxins before they’re even born.  It’s really time to take a stand.  It’s overdue, actually.  38 years overdue.

I support Seventh Generation and the Toxin Freedom Fighters for helping me take a stand.  I’d love for you to join me and sign the petition as well!
