Netflix Lessons on Lying

Whether we like it or not, lies are a part of life. Adults, teenagers, and kids alike tell lies in an attempt to stay out of trouble, to protect others and to make others happy.

Some lies, like the white lies that we tell everyday are harmless. We say we’re good to avoid getting into a discussion about our tiring, chaotic day filled with family drama and we tell our kids that Santa is real and can totally deliver gifts to every kid in the world on one single night. Other lies however, aren’t that harmless. Like when you catch your teenager lying about somewhere they were or discover them covering up something for a friend. Or lies in a relationship that can end up destroying it.

It’s tough to deal with lies, especially when they involve people you love. Whether it’s teaching your kids the importance of honesty vs lying to stay out of trouble, or handling sticky situations with sneaky teenagers, just remember to stay calm and use this as a teaching opportunity to reinforce that lies really don’t benefit anyone in the long run. Dealing with lies in our relationships as adults, whether between a partner or a friend, can be rough but keep in mind that everything is a learning lesson and can be grown from whether or not you were the liar or the lied to.

Along the lines of dealing with secrets and lies, Netflix has a brand new show coming out called Bloodlines that deals with a family trying to keep their demons secret. It’s a drama worth watching, both parents and older teenagers are getting caught up in this Netflix original.
