It’s inevitable.  At least once a week, your Facebook feed has someone asking… “What do you think I should start watching on Netflix?!”  Generally, this means “Give me a series that I can watch that has at least 8 seasons that I don’t have to worry about asking again for a while.” right?

How does Netflix Codes work?

I’m sure you’ve seen all the posts going around about Netflix Codes, but have you clicked on them to see what they do?  It’s kinda genius, really.  I was hesitant at first, because I thought it was some kind of hack that takes away from the awesomeness of Netflix, but in reality, it actually adds to the experience and makes your life a little easier!

We all wanted to start the new year off with a new series to dive into, but finding exactly what to watch can sometimes take longer than actually watching the series.  You know what I’m talking about.

When you log into your Netflix account, you’re given about 20 of the most popular categories from which to choose.  But, what happens when what you’re looking for doesn’t really fall into one of those categories?

How does Netflix Codes work?

Netflix Codes actually breaks Netflix down by all categories and subcategories and links to specific genres so that you can have that information all in one place without having to load page after page on Netflix.

So check this out. Genre (or Category) 4814 is the code for Miniseries.  When you click the link, it doesn’t take you off site to a list of shows on Netflix, it actually takes you directly to your account, and pulls up all of the shows in the Miniseries genre.

How does Netflix Codes work?

There’s really nothing about the codes list that you can’t access from Netflix.com, but it gives you a quick linked list to take a look at all the different categories available, and it leaves the guess work out!  If you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for, but you know you’re in the mood for a Disney movie for the whole family, the long way around would have you go into your account, click on “Browse”, click on Children & Family, click on Subgenres, click on Disney, and then scroll til you find what you want.  This way, the codes take you exactly to the list for Disney movies and shows.

And if you want to narrow it down even further, there’s even a code for Disney Musicals!
