Is Zote Soap safe for cloth diapers? | #clothdiapers #laundry

If you're here, you're probably wondering the same questions I've been asking for a few years, now.  Is Zote Soap safe for cloth diapers?  After reading this, you decide for yourself. I've tried to research Zote before, and it's really hard to get a straight shooting answer when it comes to ingredients in the soap. This is about all they say on their website, so because coconut oil is cloth diaper safe, you would think it would be safe for your diapers, right? ZOTE is a laundry soap made with coconut oil and tallow, containing optical brighteners, which shape and…

What are your plans for Earth Day?  Perhaps you were one of the thousands of people who celebrated this weekend, and joined a Great Cloth Diaper Change location in your area.  We surely did! While I co-hosted and co-organized the event, Andy attended and participated in the record setting by changing Jett's diaper precisly at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20th.  It was part of a global initiative to raise cloth diaper awareness as well as set a world record for the most cloth diapers changed in a 24 hour time period! Cloth Diaper saves the Baseball Game | #clothdiapers #houstoncloth

Did I tell you about the time the cloth diaper saves the baseball game? Not too long ago, we were at a friend's baseball game when it started to rain.  We kinda knew it was going to rain, but we didn't think it would rain until later.  The umpires were unprepared.  They didn't bring towels to dry the baseballs off. They were all scrambling to find a towel, when a mom from the stands said "I have a pair of practice baseball pants!", and she offered up the gray, polyester pants.  They were happy with that. Now, the cloth diapering…

These are the coolest inserts/lay-ins ever! #clothdiapers

Preface:  I don't normally do reviews for products that were purchased used or for shops that seem to no longer be in business, but the concept of these inserts/lay-ins are too cool not to talk about!  Hopefully, you can still order some through her Facebook page.  This is a personal review - no one asked me to write it! Not too long ago, I purchased a few tye-dyed prefolds from a friend on our local cloth diapering group.  Along with those prefolds, I also snagged a few of these strange maxi pad looking things called Glad Rags by Punk Rock…

Duh moment! Making Cloth Diaper Laundry Easy! | #clothdiapers

I have recently discovered (why did it take me like 12 years?) that it's so much easier to just wash cloth diapers that same day they're used! Making cloth diaper laundry easy Today, I couldn't find my diaper pail.  Why, I'm not sure. I'm thinking it's outside airing out under the carport, and it's cold and raining so I'm not going to go looking for it.  Each time we changed Jett's diaper today, we just sat it on top of the dryer.  I've always been a dry, open pail mama, so having them out and exposed isn't really that big…

Flushable Cloth Diaper Liners – It’s time.

Jett is getting to the point to where flushable cloth diaper liners are going to start being a necessity. Before now, he rarely ate any solid foods, but now, he's really into chicken, potatoes, and small veggies like peas and corn. Those of you who cloth diaper your littles know that a lot of foods that babies like to eat don't really digest or at all, in some cases, and it's inevitable that you have to dump the poop at some point in your cloth diapering career. This is where we are.  Right now, I have plenty of flushable diaper…

What is the difference between leaking and wicking? #ClothDiapers

I've had several people ask me "What is the difference between leaking and wicking?", so I thought I'd take a few minutes to let you know the difference between the two. What is the difference between leaking and wicking? Leaking: The proper definition of a leak is to enter or escape through an opening usually by a fault or mistake. When poop or pee spills out of the front, back, or legs of the diaper, this is called leaking.  Leaking can happen when a diaper is not put on properly or when a diaper does not fit properly. Leaking is never…

Why didn’t you rinse the cloth diaper first? #clothdiapers

*Warning*  This post talks about baby poop. Why didn't you rinse the cloth diaper first? Yesterday, after our Kids Beach Club preparation, I stopped by my mom's house.  Jett pooped, and I just kinda rolled his diaper up, put it in the wetbag, and put a clean diaper on him.  I didn't really think anything about it, because I do this all the time.  It's my routine when I'm out and about. Today, when I took him to her house so that I could go get my hair cut, I noticed that when I got him out of the car…

Shaving Wool Diaper Covers – Great Tools for Shaving Wool | #clothdiapers

We all want our wool to look nice.  I know I do.  Knitted and crochet wool diaper covers, pants, and shorties have a tendency, overtime, to fuzz and (what we call) "pill". Basically, this means that the wool will become fuzzy and small pilly balls will form. So, when you'd like to take the little one out in wool, or if you're ready to put your wool up for sale, these pills aren't as appealing as nice and pretty wool. Does this mean that your wool is no longer usable and will never look nice again?  NO! There are a couple…
