It’s been almost a year and a half since we moved to Mont Belvieu, Texas, which is a bit of a secluded town on the outskirts of Baytown – East of Houston.  When we moved this way, I was terrified that I would not find a pediatrician that went a long with our wishes for a more natural approach to medicine.

As a doula, I’m always being asked for referrals for obstetricians, midwives, dentists, and pediatricians, and being in a new-to-me area, with the exception of midwives and my pediatrician, I’ve not been much help.

Now, with healthgrades.com and their iOS app, I’m quickly finding doctors and midwives I didn’t even know existed!

You can either search the type of health care provider you need, or you can just type in your health care provider’s name.  Then, you simply put in your area, zip code, or let the GPS choose by your current location and touch  “search”.

Not only can you search for new and current care providers, but you can also save them to your healthgrades app dashboard and have their phone number and address right at your fingertips, rather than having to search for them.

Once you’ve added your care providers to your dashboard, you have the option to add other family members, their insurance information and medical history, and you can keep track of your appointments all within your healthgrades iOS app.

I find this app to be convenient, not only for looking for new care providers, but for looking for reviews as well as filling out school or other paperwork where you need to provide your kids’ pediatrician, insurance, or other medical information.  I put it on our iPad, and I really enjoyed looking through all of the different hospitals, doctors, dentists, and especially midwives in the area.  Very useful and informative app.

Disclosure – I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Healthgrades. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
