Dear Netflix, Dumb Move! Signed – The Mama Person

*Update Edit – Since this post, I’ve found out that what I had written wasn’t all true, so, I have edited it a little to reflect what others are concerned about!

Dear Netflix,

My family and I have been members of your service for a while.

We started out with one disc, then went to three.  Online streaming was one of the best things ever, then, you introduced the Wii disc to stream on TV.  As if that wasn’t cool enough, we were then able to hook up to the Wii online, and then the Xbox (and all those other cool gadgets.)  This feature has really helped me, because I got tired of hooking my computer up to the TV every time my kids wanted to watch a movie. Those who are looking for alternative options to stream content, you may look into the Best IPTV Subscriptions.

With all the great upgrades and keeping up with technology that you’ve done in the past to offer your patrons such fantastic service, I think the new changes in policy is going to be the Video that killed the Radio Star, if you will.

What are you thinking?

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $7.99 a month

If I paid $9.99 (plus tax) a month for Unlimited Streaming plus 1 DVDs out at a time.  This works great for us, because there are a lot of shows (TV series) and FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC movies that we like to watch that you do not have online. Say for instance – Fringe, Goonies, A Night at the Roxbury, House M.D., and lots more.

(We like 3 discs at a time, because it’s annoying to have to wait 3-4 days to get the next movie or 6 episodes of whatever show it is we want to watch, but because I never received an email with those pricing changes, I’m going off of the 1 disc at a time plan!)

Sure, combined, the price is more expensive:

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). You don’t need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

But, I kinda like things the way they are.  Now, many of your loyal customers are probably going to look elsewhere even though you “realize you (we) have many choices for home entertainment, and we thank you for your business.”

Really dumb move!  Most people make plan changes for the better.  I’m still scratching my head on the logic behind this one!

Sincerely,

The Mama Person

  1. My email was different…though I still think its lame.

    Dear Tiffani,

We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $19.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 3 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $15.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $23.98 a month ($7.99 + $15.99). You don’t need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

    1. I actually never received the email… the one I got was from a friend’s forward..

When I went to look at the blog, it didn’t say anything about a 3 disc system.. So that’s good to know! Thank you.
