Look what was in my laundry!

This weekend, Andy and I were talking about how the lizards and geckos are pretty much gone from our area, even thought it was getting up into the 80's last week.  Sunday night, a cold front blew through Texas, and it has dropped down into the 50's, 40's, and 30's.  Not all that uncommon for December in most places, but here in Houston, we love it, because it's been so hot for so long. Monday morning, I was folding some laundry on my laundry cabinet, and I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.  Low and behold,…

It’s OK to be fed up with your kids!

Lately, I have been overwhelmed.  I'm a work at home mom, and contrary to whatever everyone thinks, it's not an easy job.  I oftentimes wish that other family members and friends who have never had this type of job could just be a fly on the wall and watch a day in the life of Lisa. I'm here to say, though, that it's OK to get overwhelmed.  It's OK to want to throw your hands up in the air.  It's OK to *gasp* tired of your kids. I have a hard time balancing kids, work, dinner, cleaning, sleeping, and so on.…

I dread the morning routine! #schoodays

I am SO not a fan of morning routines. Dread sets in, for me, right about the time I roll over and notice that it's after 4 am.  Although I don't actually get up to get the boys ready for school until 6:20 am, I lay there wishing for the day when they can get up and get dressed by themselves! This is every morning. --> Kylie gets up and gets dressed and out the door on her own, so that's great, but neither of the boys usually want to wake up. It doesn't matter if clothes are already laid…

Mispronounced words my kids say that I do not correct…

"Aren't you going to correct him?" I'm sure, at one point or another, we've all been asked this question.  When you're sitting at a restaurant, and the waitress asks your 4 year old what he would like, and he replies "sal-ars", you're forced to make that on-the-spot-decision: do I correct him, or do I tell her what he meant? To me, there's nothing cuter than toddler lingo.  Even Braxton, at 6 years old, has a few words up his sleeve that we don't correct! (more…)

Origami Envelope Advent Calendars – Arrival of Christ(mas)

Every year, the kids and I get together and make Advent Calendars!  The word Advent simply means coming or arrival.  I can remember when I was little, and we had a calendar made out of green felt with red trim and red yarn dangling.  My parents would go purchase a pack of small candy canes and tie one to each set of yarn strands. My sisters and I would take turns every day, pulling off candy cane, counting down to the days of Christmas!  For many families, that's where the countdown ends.  For our family, it's a bit different! Yes,…

Are you looking for the latest scoop on evening treats that will delight your kids and satisfy your sweet tooth? Well you are in luck, because new Yoplait Splitz is coming soon to your grocer's refrigerated dairy section! I don't know how it is in your house, but in mine, if I give the boys (ages 6 and 3) yogurt, they will take a bite or two and walk away.
