About this time last year, Kylie took about a year off from soccer for several different reasons.  After about a year, we noticed that she’d started gaining some weight, because she wasn’t all that active.  Sure, they had recess at  school, as well as PE classes, but in the state of Texas, I think the requirement is only about 90 minutes of structured physical activity per week.  Pitiful, huh?

Are your kids fit?

That said, Andy and I, at our heaviest and most unhealthy state ever, went on and on to ourselves about just how much weight she’d gained and how we needed to get her back into soccer so that she didn’t blow up like we did.  All the while, sitting in our recliners, stuffing our faces with whatever we wanted to eat.  Stationary. Inactive. Lazy.

Once we put her back in soccer, we felt better because we saw the pounds start falling off of her within a matter of a couple of weeks.  We were happy with our decision to put her back out on the soccer field because she was getting more than a few minutes of physical activity every day.  At the time, it seemed like the right thing to do, right?  Well it was… for her.  We still sat there!  We never volunteered to help out, and I actually can’t even remember her practices – I didn’t even want to leave the house to go!

Are you fit?

If you know our story, you know that in April of this year (Easter to be exact), we decided that it wasn’t fair to our kiddos to force them to live healthy lives while we were hypocritically sedentary gaining weight by the day. We’ve kicked inactivity to the curb, and we’re all living more healthy lifestyles!  Kylie plays soccer and I am her coach.  Braxton plays baseball and Andy is an assistant coach.  Hawk runs circles around all of us. Literally.  All day.
