Child Abductions: Would you ignore it and keep walking?

child abduction amber alert
Could you save a family from this?

If you were walking along a busy street, and a child yelling “Help!  You’re not my dad!“, was being pulled away by a grown man?  Think about that for a second.  Now, what would you do if the man was talking or yelling back to the child, saying something like, “Hey, where were you young lady?” or “Your mother and I have been looking for you!”  Would you keep walking?  Would you watch to make sure the child really IS his?  Would you call 911? Would you confront the man?

We live in a society where there are so many defiant children and often over-reactive parents, that it’s very easy to pass by the situation, thinking that the child is out of control.

Or is she?

Check out this video from the Today Show, where Bill Stanton stages a child abduction of 7 year old Rachelle – and people just walk on by.  It’s a bit lengthy, but if you have children, you’ll want to watch it.

I think the key message here, is that it’s better to be safe, than sorry!  After watching this child abduction video, read the questions again, and see how you feel. Would you keep walking?  Would you watch to make sure the child really IS his?  Would you call 911? Would you confront the man?

Kudos to the dudes who took action.  They were ready to save this little girl, whom they don’t even KNOW, at any cost.  They worked together, and Bill was scared!  If the man who actually staged this type of child abduction was scared to death of these guys coming after him, just imagine how a real kidnapper would react in this situation.  It’s so much better to be safe than sorry.

You know, if you’re wrong, the parents may be upset with you for interfering, but in the end, they will be thankful that you cared enough about the safety of their child, that you took a few moments to make sure that tomorrow, she would wake up in the arms of her parents.
