Hawk is participating in the Reading Rocks program at school.  Basically, they have one month (?) to read 50 books.  Each time he reads a book, he has to log it with the date, title, and who read it. The program is designed to get the kiddos interested in reading by themselves and with family members.

booksLast night, I was sitting on the couch, reading The Cat in the Hat to Hawk.  I could tell that he was getting a little antsy, like he’d rather be doing something else.

I was right in the middle of the Cat bring in the box with Thing One and Thing Two when he says, “You know, kids don’t actually have to listen to their moms read.”

Of course, like I always do when he says something funny, I asked him to repeat it.   He says, “No, really, kids don’t actually have to listen when someone is reading the book.”

So I asked him, “Does this mean that you would rather be doing something else?  We can stop reading.”

He says, “No, you can still read so we can write it down on the log, but I don’t actually have to be in here and listen.”

Um… no Hawk, I think you’ve got it all wrong, buddy!
