During one of my blogging trips, I visited a Titanic Exhibit, and I was looking forward to taking Kylie to see it, because she’s a huge Titanic fan.  When our vacation changed from Pigeon Forge to Orlando, I was a little bummed that she’d not be able to see it, however, I was happy to see that one of my friends visited the museum on one of her trips.  The Titanic Experience in Orlando Florida is definitely a must see for any Titanic buff visiting the area.

When you arrive at Titanic The Experience, you are given a boarding pass with the name and information of an actual passenger on the ship.  For the duration of your visit, you’re that passenger.  As you stroll through the exhibits, you’ll see where you slept, what type of dishes you ate from, as well as the types of amenities you had in your class.  Toward the end of the tour, you’ll find a wall with a list of survivors as well as those who died that night.   My passenger and her children lived, but all of my sisters and Kylie’s passengers weren’t so lucky.

You can either take a tour guide through the Titanic, or you can take your own, self guided tour.

Titanic struck the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 1912. She sank 2 hours, 40 minutes later at 2:20 a.m. the next day.

Much of the items in the museum are recreations or items that were used at the time, but not actually on the Titanic, just to give you an idea of what was aboard the ship.  We learned that the items with the black information cards (like the one below) were actual artifacts from the Titanic.

This is an actual porthole frame from the Titanic.  A porthole is a small window that allows in air and light to quarters below deck, and it also allows people to see outside.

The Ship was built for several reasons. It was intended to be a cargo ship as much as a luxury ocean liner. The “RMS” in RMS Titanic stands for “Royal Mail Ship.” Titanic carried British mail to the United States. Besides mail, it also carried general cargo and frozen meat from America since at the time Europe could not produce enough livestock to meet its own needs.

Recently redesigned in 2012, Titanic The Experience immerses visitors in the 100 year story as never experienced before. Titanic The Experience, exclusively features…

This is a pretty cool looking fire extinguisher replica from the Titanic with a wrench and coat (or bath, I can’t remember which) hooks that were recovered from the actual titanic.  It’s really cool to get to look at all of these really neat articles of the time.

It was really cool to walk out on the Promenade Deck replica section of the museum. This section actually felt a little eery.  It was very cold and seemingly damp, and it made us feel as if we were outside on the deck of a large boat looking out over a sea blackness and stars.  It really puts into perspective what that fateful night was like for the passengers of the Titanic.  I would love to go back just to go spend a little more time on the deck.

Another one of our favorite parts of the experience was when we were able to touch a slab of ice that represented an iceberg.  We loved this hands on aspect of the tour.
