My sister-in-law and I joke all the time about how our babies, this-go-round, are going to be opposite of the last babies we had.

My babies have progressively gotten bigger. (All born circa 38 wks.)

Kylie – 7 lb 14 oz

Braxton – 8 lb 8 oz

Hawk – 9 lb 6 oz

My sister-in-law’s babies are considerably smaller, like 6 lb (sorry, E, I can’t remember exactly).

We’ve joked and joked that this time, it’s going to be the opposite.  She keeps saying she’s going to have the whopper and I’m going to have a little one.  Fat chance!  (She even made a bow for her baby girl, due in November, that is almost as big at MY head hehe!!  Maybe she’s just excited and went overboard.)

At my last appointment, which was 28 weeks, my midwife measured me at 29 weeks.  According to what I KNOW to be my EDD, I SHOULD be 27 weeks right now, so I’m going to venture to say, this baby is going to follow the trend, and be closer to about 10 lb 4ish oz.  Yikes – natural, vaginal, un-medicated, pure heavy lifting labor!  We’ll see!

Now, this one lady in Longview, Texas gave birth via c-section to a 16 lb 1 oz baby – FOUR MORE POUNDS than the doctors predicted!    (I’ve always said that doctors are full of it on predictions of weight, but they usually OVER estimate, not underestimate!)

From Chron.com:

Johnson had gestational diabetes during her pregnancy, and JaMichael is spending his first few days of life in the neonatal intensive care unit in order to regulate his blood sugar. The baby otherwise seems to be basically healthy, she said.

Now, I have only purchased one or two things for this baby that the sizing starts under 3 months, because I’m prepared for this, but I don’t think ANYTHING could have prepared this mom for a full blown toddler at birth!! My educated guess would be… a side of peanut M&Ms and Super Sized Coke to go with her gestational diabetes).

I’m happy that all is good for mom and baby, and that they’ll be going home in a few days!!

How big were your babies at birth, and how did you birth them?
