Braxton asked me this morning, “Are you starting to make the presents yet?”  I guess it was his way of asking why there are no presents under the tree.   By “make” he doesn’t literally mean make. He means wrap the presents.

Tips to keep your baby from unwrapping the Christmas PresentsThe truth is, I haven’t started wrapping presents, because I’m not sure if Jett will stay out of them the way he’s stayed away from the tree!  Almost everything we have will be easy to wrap in the boxes in which they come, which means, if Jett tears one of them, they’ll know exactly what they are getting.

So I’m waiting!

I’ll probably end up wrapping the ones that need to be put in boxes and put them under the tree just to see what Jett will do.

It’s been 5 years since we’ve had a mobile little one to actually get into the presents, and then, we actually put the tree and presents up on a table out of reach.  There’s just not room to do that with the lower ceiling in this house!

Here are some things we’ve (and friends have) tried in the past.

  • Put the presents on a table, out of reach of the little one.
  • If you need it for presentation purposes make dummy gifts for under the tree.  You can either put these in front of the real gifts, or make them the only gifts you put under the tree.  That way, the real gifts aren’t discovered.
  • Put a child gate (play yard type) around your tree.  (For me, this takes away from the prettiness of the tree.)
  • Push the gifts as far back under the tree as you can, and try not to draw attention to them.
  • Redirect your little one each time he/she gets close to the tree.
  • If all else fails, just wait, and put them out the night before Christmas!

What methods have worked for you?
